Sweet Woodruff, as the scientific name odoratum suggests was widely
used in herbal medicine during the Middle Ages.
Traditional use: Leaves - raw or cooked, or used as a flavouring in
cooling drinks or added to fruit salads. The leaves are soaked in white
wine to make 'Maitrank, an aromatic tonic drink that is made in Alsace.
A fragrant and delicious herbal tea is made from the green-dried leaves
and flowers. The tea has a fresh, grassy flavour with gentle sedative
properties.
It very popular, mainly in Germany, to flavour wine (Maiwein), beer
(Berliner Weisse), brandy, sausages and jam.
Warning: Do not use this herb if you are taking conventional medicine
for circulatory problems. Consult your physician before using.
Not suitable for pregnant/ breastfeeding woman and children.
